De Tomaso

De Tomaso was an Italian company for the production of automobiles, was founded in Modena in 1959 by Argentine driver Alejandro de Tomaso. Over the years it has changed its name several times, but have always been under the full control of its founder, died in 2003 at the age of 75 years.

In 1959, readily obtained financial support from the American “Rowan Controller Industries” through his second wife, the small workshop became the Alejandro De Tomaso Automobili, taking in its logo the same “T” used as a trademark for livestock in the farm of the rich maternal family, placed on a white field and blue, the colors of the flag of the country of origin of the pilot. In 1964 De Tomaso began the construction of racing cars for private drivers and cars in small series.

Among the various racing cars made by the Argentine, many of which were one-offs or prototypes, was the car used by Frank Williams’ team for the 1970 Formula 1 championship.
